Is our country on the brink of becoming a full-blown police state? Fast-forward two decades. What might life look like? Given we now know that—in the name of national security—our phone calls, social networking, credit card activity, and large financial transactions are all being monitored, what other forms of surveillance are ahead?
Let’s peruse a partial list. Closed circuit cameras are blossoming everywhere. Though most are currently owned by private entities, with the Boston Bombers having been identified via store cameras, governments will certainly use security as their excuse for more taxpayer-funded spy cameras—everywhere. The Environmental Protection Agency is currently deploying drones in order to snoop on farmers, ranchers, and property owners, all in the name of protecting the environment. Home-based Smart technology (of which I have written extensively in Eco-Tyranny) is not only capable of monitoring your overall energy usage, but when fully implemented via the Smart Grid, will allow your utility company the ability to literally remotely control every electrified item in your home. If you’re deemed using too much electricity they will systematically be able to switch off appliances without your approval. Former CIA chief David Patraeus even bragged about being able to eventually spy on us through ourdishwashers. And that black box the Department of Transportation is trying to affix to your car? It will monitor all of your travels, making sure you’re taxed based on the amount of gasoline your consuming
Certainly our currency will be gone in just a matter of time. Politicians will tell us a move to a debit-card society will not only save the Treasury money, but will stop currency forgery, money laundering, cash robberies, and so on. With such a move the government will thus be able to better track our movement and habits. If you’re behind on a tax payment, even purchasing a loaf of bread will be impossible—your debit account will have been frozen. Did the Obamacare doctor tell you to lay off the sugar? Good luck purchasing that candy bar.
As for Obamacare, there will be fewer individuals born with handicaps and disabilities because they will never make it out of the womb. Our elderly population will also decrease because maintaining their health is too costly. The day will come when we’ll probably be awakened by a siren that mimics the Islamic call to prayer, demanding that we get out of bed, turn on our TVs and participate in the daily workout, all while we’re being monitored by Skype—and all for “the general welfare” of the nation.
