California Volunteers:

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, food banks up and down the state have seen a significant decrease in volunteers. Governor Newsom deployed the California National Guard to fill in the void left by those volunteers and distribute food to help the most vulnerable. But their deployment is only meant to be short-term support. Now, they need your help. If you are healthy, please volunteer at a food bank in your community.

Caliva retail stores and delivery services will remain open for business during “shelter-in-place,” to support their customers who rely on cannabis products for their health and everyday well-being. They quickly developed no touch delivery & curbside pickup. They also have seniors & veterans only hours from 9a – 10a at the dispensary in San Jose!

Popular Noe Valley Chinese restaurant is serving large portions of classic dishes. During this time, they have been recognized for providing free soup to neighbors who are home bound for age or health reasons and is delivered by neighborhood volunteers!

Estudillo Produce & Delicatessen:

Estudillo Produce & Delicatessen in San Leandro is a family owned/ run business who has done a great job helping seniors in the area! They have created special senior shopping hours and provide sanitary wipes while controlling the number of shoppers in the store at a time. Locals are saying they are going the extra mile by providing free home grocery delivery for seniors as well! Julie and her staff are always friendly and truly care about their patrons and the community!

Flights Restaurant: 

Flights Restaurant in Los Gatos now has a “no touch” drive through grocery store in their parking lot! In addition to groceries and specialties, they also have family meals and alcohol that you can purchase!

Whether it is called Food Waste, Food Rescue, or Food Recovery, Food Runners is a leader in the effort to keep edible food from being discarded. Food Runners picks up excess perishable and prepared food from businesses such as restaurants, caterers, bakeries, hospitals, event planners, corporate cafeterias, and hotels and delivers it directly to a neighborhood food programs.  Food Runners is alleviating hunger and preventing waste in San Francisco with their volunteers relaying food for over 20,000 meals in San Francisco each week!

Love for the Elderly is asking people across the country to share a little handwritten love with isolated residents in senior care facilities. It’s a small gesture that can help the elderly to feel more connected during the coronavirus outbreak, which has closed down hospices, assisted living facilities, and senior centers to visitors.

Salvation Army:

The Salvation Army in San Francisco is continuing to stand in the gap to serve its communities and clients, providing as many resources to those in need as government guidelines permit. The Salvation Army continues to house 700 people every night, through its residential, transitional living and adult rehabilitation programs.

St. Anthony Foundation: 

You can help create kits filled with wellness essentials like soap, hand sanitizer, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and feminine hygiene products for unhoused and other vulnerable community members. St. Anthony Foundation is accepting kits as well as donations of gently used clothing and food at their headquarters on Golden Gate Avenue and Jones Street.
