The San Francisco Fire Department has contained an active 3-alarm fire from an explosion that occurred at 1734 22nd Avenue between Noriega and Moraga.

Fire Chief Jeanine Nicholson said she hasn’t seen something like this in 25 years, calling the explosion “really, really powerful” and saying it completely took the home off its foundation.

Crews responded following a call that came in before 9:30 Thursday morning. The San Francisco Fire Department Media took to Twitter to confirm three homes were damaged, one civilian is seriously injured, and one firefighter is injured but in stable condition.

Evacuations are in order for 1730-1750 on 22nd Avenue and a shelter-in-place order is for everyone else on the 1700 block of 22nd Avenue.

The cause is currently under investigation. There is no threat to the public.
