A recent poll conducted by polling firm EMC Research found that an overwhelming majority of San Francisco residents support revoking sanctuary city protections for illegal immigrants convicted of dealing fentanyl.

The poll surveyed 500 potential voters asking: “Should fentanyl felony dealing not have sanctuary city protections?” The results showed that 70% were in favor of revoking protection for such criminals, while 20% opposed the measure. The remaining 10 percent were either unsure or refused to answer.

Fentanyl-related deaths in San Francisco have been rampant, with approximately 2,000 being directly linked to drug overdoses over the past three years.

Statewide, family members of people who have died from fentanyl overdoses have been expressing frustration at the number of bills that have so far failed to advance in the legislature this year.
