Mayor London Breed presented San Francisco’s highest-ever $14.6 billion budget, which calls for significant spending increases on police, homelessness, and substance abuse.

Despite a $780 million deficit, Mayor Breed hopes to add 220 new police officers to the San Francisco Police Department with a $60 million budget boost.

In addition to these proposals, there is a plan to implement substance-abuse treatment programs and to offer 3% more funding for homelessness.

However, the budget does not include detailed information about Breed’s recent announcement to arrest publicly intoxicated individuals.

Mayor Breed also proposed several tax cuts and incentives to resuscitate San Francisco’s struggling downtown and fill retail vacancies.
