Cinemark Closes San Francisco Theater, Citing City’s ‘Local Business Conditions’

There is more fallout for San Francisco’s Westfield mall. The Cinemark theater is the latest to shut down.  Fans lined up last night for their last chance to see a movie there.

The company decided to end its lease early the same week Westfield said it will give up the mall and hand over management.

The 52,000-square-foot site in the Westfield San Francisco Center has no screenings listed on its website after Thursday.

The operator announced the closure in an email to patrons on Wednesday, The San Francisco Examiner reported.

The anchor store Nordstrom is also set to close in August.

The stream of departures comes amid a growing exodus of retailers fleeing downtown San Francisco for various reasons as the city continues to struggle with retail theft, homelessness and a raging drug crisis.
