Some people in San Francisco are not fans of Robotaxis. According to TechCrunch, a group of safe street activists has figured out that autonomous taxis from Cruise and Waymo can be disabled when a traffic cone is put on the hood of the vehicles.
They are encouraging others to do this during what the group calls, the “Week of the Cone.” The protest comes in the lead-up to a hearing that will likely see Waymo and Cruise expand their robotaxi services in San Francisco.
Recently San Francisco’s Fire Chief Jeanine Nicholson, told ABC-7 that firefighters are encountering at least one robotaxi every single day and there could eventually be deadly consequences.
“The biggest concern is that someone is going to get really severely injured or killed because we cannot properly respond to an incident,” Chief Nicholson said.
