Florida and Georgia state representatives are suing two California cities that they say violated their First Amendment rights by canceling their rallies.
Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Green had rallies scheduled in Anaheim and Riverside in 2021. However, both of the venues canceled the events after facing pressure from local government officials and activists.
Ten advocacy groups are also being named in the lawsuit. Green and Gaetz are hoping for an order that would ban cities from “Coercing private venues from entering into facilities use contracts with Plaintiffs for future political rallies.”
They’re also seeking damages and emotional distress.
