San Francisco is exploring ways to save the city’s ailing tourist attraction Fisherman’s Wharf. For generations, the site has welcomed tourists near and far, but a rise in crime, and homelessness have caused empty storefronts and the area to lose its luster and revenue.
Local developers are now proposing to revitalize the wharf by transforming it into a multifaceted attraction that includes an events space, a seafood-oriented food hall, interactive exhibits on the fishing trade, and a small fish-processing facility.
They say they’re shifting focus from maintaining a tourist attraction to preserving the wharf’s legacy.
