A California woman was attacked and killed inside her home by an aggressive black bear – the first such death ever recorded in the state.
71-year-old Pactice Miller was found dead last November, but authorities weren’t sure at first if she had been killed by the bear, or was eaten after she had already died of natural causes.
But neighbors say Miller had been harassed by the bear for months, nicknaming it “Big B—-ard”.
They say Miller installed bars over the windows to keep the bear out, but it managed to break down the door.
The animal was eventually captured and euthanized.
The mountain town of Downieville is a hotspot for bears, with nearly 40% of the state’s black bear population living in the Sierra Nevadas.
