Governor Gavin Newsom wants to reign-in free healthcare for illegal immigrants. California is facing a roughly two-billion-dollar deficit for the coming fiscal year. In an effort to help reduce that, Newsom wants to cap the healthcare the state is giving the undocumented. People 19-years and older living in California illegally will no longer be allowed to sign up for the state’s Medi-Cal health coverage starting in 2026. Children and teens will still be eligible. Newsom also says illegal immigrants already on Medi-Cal will have to start paying a 100-dollar monthly premium beginning in 2027. Newsom’s office says this will save taxpayers nearly five-and-a-half-billion dollars by 2028.
