A suspect in the assassination of Charlie Kirk is in custody and could face the death penalty. Court records show Tyler Robinson was arrested on charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice. President Trump has stated several times the “animal” who murdered Kirk should be put to death. Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Justice Department may seek the death penalty, and Utah Governor Spencer Cox has made a point to note his state has capital punishment for certain crimes.
The suspected assassin of Charlie Kirk was not a current student at Utah Valley University, but went for one semester in 2021. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Robinson’s family reports the 22-year-old had become more political in recent years. Robinson told his family Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University and added that he believed Kirk was full of hate and he didn’t like him. Police say Robinson changed outfits when he arrived on campus before he allegedly shot and killed Kirk, then changed again as he was fleeing the scene.
