Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell is resigning from Congress following sexual assault allegations against him. In a post, Swalwell says he’s “deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment he made in the past.” He goes on to say he will fight the “false allegations” made against him. He represented of California’s 14th congressional district.
Swalwell ended his campaign for California governor over the weekend. A former staffer told the San Francisco Chronicle Swalwell sexually assaulted her when she was too intoxicated to consent in 2019 and 2024. Three other women also told CNN about Swalwell’s alleged sexual misconduct.
