The Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education is reviewing a draft proposal that would sharply limit student screen time beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Under the plan, students through second grade would be prohibited from using computers and other digital screens entirely during the school day. Older students would face gradually increasing daily screen-time limits based on age and grade level. The proposal would also ban recreational screen use on campus, restrict device usage during breaks and block access to noneducational websites while at school. District officials say they are still working to develop a system that can effectively monitor and track how much technology students are using each day. Supporters of the proposal argue the changes could help improve focus, classroom engagement and social interaction among students. The policy is still in the draft stage and could be revised before the school board takes final action later this year.
