A man who died in a skydiving accident in the Inland Empire last week has been identified as a visitor from Tahiti. The fatal incident occurred Thursday afternoon during a jump involving three experienced skydivers at Skydive Perris. According to the company, the men were using their own parachutes and equipment when two of them likely collided in midair during freefall.
Authorities found the 57-year-old victim dead on the east side of the 215 Freeway. A second skydiver was discovered critically injured on the west side of the freeway and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released. The third member of the group, who also participated in the jump, was not injured.
In a statement, Skydive Perris said all three skydivers were experienced and that each of them “landed under good parachutes,” despite the apparent collision that occurred before landing.
