Meta Platforms is preparing to lay off nearly 2,300 employees in California as part of a broader effort to reduce its workforce by about ten percent. According to company filings, the cuts will impact 74 employees at Meta’s Playa Vista office in Los Angeles and roughly 2,200 workers at its headquarters in Menlo Park. Employees affected by the layoffs were notified on May 22 and are expected to officially separate from the company by July 22. Meta has not announced any additional companywide layoffs planned for 2026. The company says the workforce reduction is part of an ongoing strategy to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and help offset the significant costs associated with its growing investments in artificial intelligence. Like many technology companies, Meta has been increasing spending on AI infrastructure and development while looking for ways to control expenses and maintain profitability. The layoffs mark another major workforce adjustment for the social media giant.
