More than a dozen arrests were made Thursday during a coordinated law enforcement operation at MacArthur Park in Los Angeles. According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, the effort was aimed at addressing drug trafficking, gang-related activity, and other criminal offenses in the area. Officials emphasized that the operation was not connected to immigration enforcement.
Agents from the DEA and officers from local law enforcement agencies reported that 13 individuals were taken into custody on charges ranging from public drinking to other quality-of-life violations. Authorities also recovered drug paraphernalia throughout the park, highlighting ongoing concerns about illegal drug activity in the area.
Officials described the initiative as part of a broader strategy to dismantle what they call an open-air drug market driven largely by fentanyl and methamphetamine sales. Law enforcement leaders say the operation is intended to improve public safety while disrupting criminal networks. A final phase of the initiative is expected to focus on treatment, recovery, and support services for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
