A suspect was killed following an officer-involved shooting that forced the closure of the northbound 405 Freeway near LAX early Friday morning. Authorities said the incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. after a police pursuit through Westchester. Investigators say the suspect was wanted in connection with a robbery and allegedly opened fire on officers during the chase. A cab driver also told police the suspect threatened them with a gun before the pursuit ended. According to investigators, the suspect stopped on the 405 Freeway near Howard Hughes Parkway, exited the vehicle while armed with a handgun, and refused officers’ commands. Police then opened fire, striking the suspect. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The freeway has remained closed as authorities conduct an extensive investigation. Around 7:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol announced the northbound lanes would stay shut down for another six to eight hours, causing major traffic backups stretching beyond the 105 Freeway and affecting the morning commute.
