Boyle Heights residents and leaders are demanding answers from the COO of Lineage Logistics, the operator of the warehouse that burned for a week last month. On Monday, COO Jeff Rivera had a closed-door meeting with residents and local officials. Speaking with the media, Rivera called it a “first step.” The fire started on June 17th, destroying a cold food storage warehouse. Residents, already impacted by days of smoke, have had to deal with the stench of millions of pounds of rotting food in the aftermath. They say it’s caused headaches, nausea and vomiting. L.A. City Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, who hosted the meeting, says corporations have long been using neighborhoods like Boyle Heights as their “trash can.” On Thursday, there will be town hall meeting with the mayor’s office and L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis. Jurado says Lineage officials have agreed to attend it.
