The Food and Drug Administration says initial test results linking Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce to a cyclospora outbreak were incorrect. After conducting additional testing, the FDA determined that samples of iceberg lettuce grown in central Mexico did not test positive for the parasite, calling the earlier result a false positive. Cyclospora infections have sickened people in New Jersey, New York, and several other states. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1,600 people have become ill, while state health departments report thousands of confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis nationwide since May. Despite the updated findings, Taylor Farms announced Friday that it is voluntarily removing iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico out of an abundance of caution. Health officials continue investigating the source of the outbreak and are working to determine what caused the widespread illnesses. Consumers are urged to follow any updated food safety guidance issued by health authorities.
