300+ Residents Sue Lineage, Alleging Ammonia Exposure

More than 300 residents have filed a lawsuit against Lineage Logistics following the massive warehouse fire that broke out in mid-June. The plaintiffs, who live in Boyle Heights, East Los Angeles, Commerce, and Montebello, claim they have endured weeks of exposure to hazardous smoke, ash, ammonia, and persistent pest infestations since the fire. According to the lawsuit, the environmental impacts have affected both their health and their homes for more than six weeks. The 155-page complaint asks a judge to hold Lineage Logistics financially responsible for the damages and costs associated with the fire’s aftermath. The lawsuit also points to a smaller rooftop fire at the same warehouse two years earlier, arguing that the earlier incident put the company on notice of what it describes as a recurring and foreseeable fire risk. Plaintiffs contend Lineage failed to take adequate steps to prevent another blaze, ultimately putting surrounding communities in danger and causing widespread disruption.
