Concerns Grow About Crime, Graffiti, Homeless Encampments at Unopened Park

Community concerns are growing over an unopened, multimillion-dollar park near the Sixth Street Bridge, with nearby residents worried about graffiti, crime and possible homeless encampments. The Sixth Street PARC, which stands for Park, Arts and River Connectivity, is a 12-acre development stretching from the Arts District to Boyle Heights. The $82 million project is expected to feature playgrounds, a soccer field, open green space and other recreational amenities for the surrounding communities. Construction is still underway, but graffiti has already appeared on some of the park’s equipment, raising concerns about what could happen once the site opens. In response, neighbors have launched a petition urging the City of Los Angeles to establish a no-camping zone around the park. The petition has already gathered hundreds of signatures. Residents say they want the city to address their concerns and ensure the new park remains clean, safe and accessible for everyone.
