A roughly 500-pound black bear that once lived under a home in Altadena is back in the same neighborhood. The bear returned from the wilderness after being captured and relocated earlier this year. It was recently spotted breaking into a home, ripping down a window screen and tearing through a fence, possibly while looking for shelter. The nine-year-old bear, which has been tagged by wildlife officials, has spent multiple weeks in the area at different times over the past two years. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says it is aware the bear has returned, but officials say they will not relocate it unless the animal becomes aggressive or poses a significant threat. Residents are being reminded to keep a safe distance from the bear and avoid approaching or attempting to feed it. Wildlife officials say people should secure trash and other potential food sources around their homes to discourage the bear from returning. The bear’s movements will continue to be monitored.
