A man accused of brutally beating a 71-year-old Crestline grandmother with a baseball bat is back in California to face charges. Detectives tracked down 26-year-old Erik Navarro at an Oklahoma jail, where he was being held on unrelated traffic charges. The family of victim Therese Garcia says she had welcomed Navarro, a stranger, into her home near Big Bear and even cooked him dinner every night. But about a week later, investigators say Navarro allegedly attacked Garcia with a bat while she was sleeping. He was later located and arrested in Oklahoma before being returned to California. Navarro is now being held in jail and faces charges including assault, robbery and elder abuse. Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged attack or whether Garcia is still recovering from her injuries. The case remains under investigation as prosecutors move forward with the charges.
