Starting today, electric vehicle drivers could face a 490-dollar fine for violating California’s carpool lane laws. Until today, EV drivers were allowed to drive solo in the carpool lane. Now, the same rules apply to EV drivers as every other driver. The privilege was granted to EV drivers for decades. They were also given discounted bridge tolls. Congress declined to pass legislation to extend the privileges, officially ending them on October 1st. The CHP had allowed drivers a 60-day grace period.
