California is number one — when it comes to car thefts. A new report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau says that two California metro areas have the most stolen cars per capita – The Bay Area, and Bakersfield. They beat out Memphis, Tennessee, which drops from first to third. And the most stolen car in California? Honda Accords, followed by Chevy Silverado 1500s, and Honda Civics. Number 4, the Hyundai Elantra, is the most stolen car nationwide. Overall though, U.S. car thefts were down in 2025, to the lowest levels in decades.
