Containment of the Sandy Fire burning in Southern California has increased to 30 percent, an improvement of eight percent since Wednesday night. The wildfire has scorched more than 21-hundred acres near Simi Valley, where thousands of residents remain impacted. About 44-thousand people are still under mandatory evacuation orders, while hundreds more remain under evacuation warnings as firefighters continue working to stop the spread of the flames. The fire first broke out late Monday morning and quickly grew because of dry brush, hot conditions, and strong winds pushing the flames through the area. So far, damage has been limited, with officials confirming the destruction of one home. Fire crews have been battling the blaze around the clock, and nearly 900 firefighters remain assigned to the incident. Authorities are urging residents to stay alert, follow evacuation instructions, and monitor updates as weather conditions continue to challenge firefighting efforts across Ventura County and surrounding communities.
