Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is responding ahead of the release of new homelessness figures that are expected to show an increase across the city and county. The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority is scheduled to release the results of its annual point-in-time count this afternoon. According to reports, the survey will show homelessness rose by nearly three-and-a-half percent this year, following two consecutive years of declines. In an eight-paragraph statement issued before the report’s release, Bass said her administration has reduced overall homelessness by 11 percent since taking office in 2023. She attributed the anticipated increase to reductions in federal and state funding for homelessness programs and also criticized Los Angeles County, saying it has failed to provide adequate services for people experiencing homelessness. Bass has made addressing the homelessness crisis the centerpiece of her administration and is expected to highlight those efforts as she campaigns for a second term in office.
