New California Department of Justice data identifies Turner’s Outdoorsman as a major source of crime guns in several of the state’s largest cities, including Bakersfield, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Long Beach, and Fresno. In Bakersfield, 83 firearms sold at a Turner’s Outdoorsman location between 2023 and 2025 were later classified as crime guns. That’s the highest number linked to any store with an active firearms dealer license in California’s 10 most populous cities. The DOJ defines crime guns as firearms that were used in a crime, suspected of being used in a crime, or illegally possessed. Turner’s Outdoorsman operates more than 30 locations across California. A store in the Sacramento area, just outside the city limits, was also linked to 38 crime guns recovered by law enforcement. The data does not necessarily indicate the firearms were illegally sold, but tracks guns later connected to criminal activity or unlawful possession, according to state records.
