Family members of Erik and Lyle Menendez are expressing gratitude after the brothers’ next parole hearing was moved up. The California Board of Parole has tentatively scheduled their next parole suitability hearing for March. The brothers were convicted of killing their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in their Beverly Hills mansion. They were originally eligible to seek another parole suitability hearing in August 2028. Both men were denied parole during their first hearings before the parole board last year. In a statement, the Menendez family says they are “incredibly proud of the men they have become.” Family members also say they are encouraged by the board’s decision to move the hearings forward. The brothers have been serving life sentences for the 1989 killings. Their upcoming hearings will give the parole board another opportunity to consider whether either man is suitable for release. The hearings are expected to take place in March.
