Los Angeles is reporting more than 12-thousand homeless-related fires so far this year. Between January first and September 20th, there were 12-thousand-241 fires classified as homeless or encampment-related. That’s down about six percent from the same period last year, but still averages roughly 47 fires every day. A large percentage of those fires have been reported along the 10 Freeway corridor and in the Skid Row area. In one small section of Skid Row alone, data shows 77 homeless-related fires so far this year. Most of those fires involve trash. The numbers highlight the ongoing challenge facing Los Angeles as firefighters respond to fires associated with homeless encampments and outdoor living areas. Officials continue to monitor fire activity across the city, particularly in areas where encampments and large amounts of debris are present. The data covers fires reported through September 20th.
