Metrolink riders are paying higher fares starting today, marking the transit agency’s first fare increase in 13 years. One-way ticket prices are rising by an average of 14 percent. The SoCal Day Pass will now cost 19 dollars on weekdays and 12 dollars on weekends and holidays. Nearly 80 percent of one-way ticket purchases will increase by no more than one dollar, while less than one percent will go up by more than two dollars. The fare increases were approved by the Metrolink Board of Directors in June. Board members cited several factors behind the hikes, including rising operating and maintenance costs, lower ridership following the pandemic and declining state and federal funding. Metrolink says the new fares are intended to help address those financial pressures while maintaining service. The increase affects passengers throughout Southern California who rely on Metrolink for commuting, travel and connections to other transportation systems.
