At least eight homes on the Long Beach coast are red-tagged after suffering damage from powerful waves and flooding. The boardwalk along the Long Beach peninsula is also damaged, due to the impacts of post-tropical storm Rachel. The same area was battered by powerful waves in September, as Hurricane Marie passed well off the coast. With powerful surf expected to continue today, crews have reinforced sandbags, while officials have established a centralized command post and pre-staged equipment across vulnerable neighborhoods like Naples. Broader evacuation orders for Naples Island and Treasure Island were lifted on Sunday evening but remain in place for beachfront properties along Seaside Walk. Evacuation warnings remain in place for peninsula residents south of Ocean Boulevard and homes on several blocks of Seaside Walk.
