High tides and large waves are expected to continue pounding San Diego beaches today as Tropical Storm Rachel moves away from the region. The National Weather Service says a coastal flood advisory remains in effect until two p.m. this afternoon. However, beachgoers should remain cautious as the next peak high tide is expected to reach more than six feet around 10:37 this morning. That surge could bring additional coastal flooding to low-lying areas along the shoreline. Officials are urging people to pay attention to changing ocean conditions and use caution near the water. Even as the storm moves out, its lingering effects are expected to keep surf conditions elevated. Waves and rising tides can create hazardous conditions for swimmers, surfers, and anyone walking near the water’s edge. The advisory is scheduled to expire this afternoon, but conditions may remain dangerous, so visitors should follow local warnings and avoid flooded coastal areas.
