Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) publicly urged California Sen. Dianne Feinstein to resign as the 89-year-old Democrat continues to recover from shingles and has been absent from Congress for two months.
“I think criticisms of that stance as ‘anti-feminist’ are a farce,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on the new social media app Bluesky, adding “Feinstein ‘should retire.’” Democratic Reps. Ro Khanna (Calif.), Dean Phillips (Minn.), and Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) have previously called for Feinstein’s resignation.
Feinstein, the Senate’s oldest member, has faced questions about her mental fitness in recent years and will not seek re-election in 2024. Democrats including Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee have announced campaigns to replace her in the Senate.
According to Politico, Feinstein is “hopeful” she’ll return to Washington next week, according to notes Chuck Schumer held at a Tuesday press conference.
