Former President Donald Trump holds a sizable lead over the field in the GOP California presidential primary, according to a new Public Policy Institute of California survey.

The poll has Trump in first place with 50% support, almost 30 points ahead of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 21%.

Coming in third in the survey at 10% is former Vice President Mike Pence, who just announced his candidacy. Former Representative Liz Cheney is fourth in the GOP field at 7%, while former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is fifth at 3%. No one else received more than 2%.

This is the second recent poll that shows Trump with a large lead over DeSantis in California, as the Berkeley Institute of Government Studies survey has the former president ahead of the Florida governor by 44% to 26% after DeSantis had held a 37% to 29% advantage over Trump in the same poll in February.

The poll was conducted from May 17-24 by Ipsos, using its online KnowledgePanel, in English and Spanish according to respondents’ preferences, PPIC reported. The sampling error, taking design effects from weighting into consideration, is ±3.2 percent at the 95% confidence level for the total unweighted sample of 1,576 adults.
