San Francisco city leaders are pushing for a new law to ban guns at parks, restaurants, supermarkets, churches, election facilities and other public places.

They say people need to feel safe when they go out, given the increase in shootings over the last several days.  That includes a block party in the Mission District and a nightclub near Balboa Park.

The legislation is expected to vote on the issue before the end of next month.

Recently, Governor Gavin Newsom proposed restricting gun rights through a 28th Amendment to the Constitution.

The proposed gun restrictions include raising the minimum age of firearm purchases to 21, universal background checks, a mandatory waiting period for gun purchases, and prohibiting civilians from purchasing assault weapons.
