January 9: Scam Call Story from Katie Green

Yesterday, I received a phone call from an unknown 371 phone number that just said United States.  Once answered, I figured out that it was a scam but I decided to have a little fun and play along.  Apparently, the company that I “purchased software from had closed” and I was getting a refund of $299! (No, I didn’t purchase any $299 software) I went through the process and was connected to a man with a very thick middle eastern accent.  He asked me to only use GOOGLE CHROME and that I needed to visit the URL they provided to me.

Obviously I wouldn’t ever go to that URL because clearly they were trying to hack something.  I notified them that I knew what he was trying to do and that I wasn’t having it. (There were some choice words sprinkled in but I can’t say them here. HA!) Just be aware friends, some people get these calls multiple times a day and lots of people fall victim to them.

HERE ARE SOME SIGNS THAT A PHONE CALL COULD BE A SCAM
