The White House declared a public health emergency over the monkeypox outbreak on Thursday.
Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becarra says the move will help his agency “get vaccines and treatments more quickly out to the impacted communities”, as well as gather more data to “track and attack” the outbreak.
“We are prepared to take our response to the next level in addressing this virus and we urge every American to take monkeypox seriously,” Becarra continued.
The CDC has confirmed over 6,600 cases of monkeypox in the U.S. – more than any other country.
