The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is ready to dig itself out of a multi-million dollar deficit by extending meter hours and making free Sunday parking a thing of the past. This is after bike lanes and parklets have taken away parking spots in recent years.

The agency which oversees Muni, taxis, city streets and parking, faces a $130 million budget deficit once its federal pandemic aid runs out.

So, starting in July, the SFMTA San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will extend metered parking hours until 10 p.m. from Monday through Saturday and enforce parking meters from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The changes will happen in six phases through the end of 2024, according to the agency’s plan.

Currently, the city operates 28,000 parking meters from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays in most parts of the city.
