Sex Worker Barricades Vandalized

Sex worker barricades in San Francisco’s Mission District have been vandalized and even destroyed.

The barricades are set along four blocks of Capp Street between 22nd and 18th and are meant to mitigate sex workers in the area and prevent the uptick of violent crime allegedly related to prostitution.

Residents say the street is still plagued by sex workers and prostitution.

The first barriers were installed in February and there have been several versions, with the most recent made of collapsible steel.

Officials aren’t sure who is responsible for the vandalism.

Each barrier costs nearly 40-thousand dollars and that doesn’t include the cost to install and maintain them.
