The Oakland City Council approved a raise for Mayor Sheng Thao, making her the third-highest paid mayor in California.

Thao’s annual salary will now increase to $216,000, up by $13,000.

The raise had been previously approved in July so the vote was a formality.

For context, San Francisco Mayor Breed earns $357,000, making her the highest-paid mayor in the state, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass receives $301,000.

According to the city charter, the mayor’s salary should range between 70% and 90% of the average salaries of city managers and chief executive officers.
