Sacramento City And County Attorneys Spar Over The Homeless Crisis

The Sacramento city attorney is answering the threats from the county DA to file criminal charges over the city’s homeless crisis. In November Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho threatened misdemeanor charges because the city continues allowing homeless residents to live at Camp Resolution, an encampment in old North Sacramento. Ho cited concerns that the area is a toxic site that endangers the homeless.

The Sacramento Bee obtained a five-page letter from City Attorney Susana Alcala Wood in which she claims Ho’s allegations are baseless and politically motivated. Ho and Mayor Darrell Steinberg may potentially be rival candidates in a run for California Attorney General. Ho’s office said the DA is willing to meet with city officials to find a path forward.
