Floyd Mitchell Formally Introduced as Oakland’s New Police Chief

YouTube, @ABC7 News Bay Area.

Oakland is welcoming its new top cop.  Mayor Sheng Thao introduced the city’s police chief yesterday after more than a year of no one filling the role permanently.

Floyd Mitchell says he intends to “attack the violent crime issue” in his first 100 days on the job.  He also told a crowd at City Hall he will work tirelessly to earn the trust, respect and confidence of his staff, residents and businesses.

Mitchell is expected to start by early May.

The Oakland Police Department has gone through 12 police chiefs in the last two decades and is still under the watch of a federal monitor because of a scandal in the early 2000s.
