SF Home & Business Owners Cited for Using Planters to Keep Sidewalks Encampment Free

The city of San Francisco is instructing owners of sidewalk garden planters to relocate them within 30 days or cover the costs of moving the heavy metal planters.

These planters, deemed “hostile architecture” by homeless advocates, are used by home and business owners to keep encampments off the sidewalk.

Following reports from activists to the Department of Public Works citing problematic placements of the planters, several citations have been issued. The advocates allege the planters block access for disabled individuals and pedestrians.
