The California Highway Patrol has seized almost ten-million doses of the deadliest opioid in a nearly one-year operation in San Francisco. Working with city law enforcement, the CHP seized over forty pounds of fentanyl within a ten-block radius in the city’s Tenderloin District.

As part of the operation, law enforcement issued over six thousand citations leading to nearly five hundred arrests for illegal activity, and recovered over a dozen guns. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.

According to the CDC, it is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the U.S.
