Google Removes Links to California News Websites

Google is removing searchable links to California news websites.

This comes as Google continues to push back against a state bill that would make the company pay publishers.  If signed into law, the California Journalism Preservation Act would make tech companies pay a “journalism usage fee” when they sell ads next to news content.

Google claims the bill would impact its business model.  The online search giant added that it’s “pausing further investments in the California news ecosystem.”
