The FBI is reportedly investigating the California State Treasurer’s Office. The FBI requested documents from the treasurer’s office as part of a federal grand jury subpoena involving a case that has not yet been made public. 

A spokesperson for State Treasurer Fiona Ma says the office is cooperating. 

It’s not clear if the reported investigation is about the treasurer’s office itself or Ma.  According to longstanding policy, the FBI says it does not confirm or deny the existence of an investigation.  Ma is running for California lieutenant governor in 2026.
