The man accused of shooting a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy on Monday has a long, violent criminal history. Forty-seven-year-old Raymundo Duran is also a known gang member, and led police on a pursuit through Covina that was broadcast on live TV in 2021.
Police say Duran shot a uniformed motorcycle deputy in the back, as the deputy was stopped at a red light in West Covina. The deputy is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.
The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department says his bulletproof vest saved his life.
