A Los Angeles Metro board member expressed fear of riding alone on the city’s public transportation system. The declaration was made during a board meeting where the agency declared a public safety emergency.

“I will not ride our transit system by myself. I am afraid and I sit on Metro, but I will not ride it,” stated Board Member Kathryn Barger.

Recent violent attacks led to the emergency meeting of the Board of Directors, resulting in plans to install shatterproof glass barriers on buses and enhance security measures such as more cameras and facial recognition technology.
